Terms of Service

Unreviewed draft

This document has not been reviewed by a lawyer. The descriptions of how the game behaves are accurate to the software; the legal terms around them are a starting point, not a finished agreement. Every highlighted placeholder is a decision the operator still has to make. Fill them in, have the result reviewed, then delete this notice.

1. Who these terms are with

Roamadic is operated by Bug & Bean LLC, a California limited liability company, at [OWNER: postal address for Bug & Bean LLC] ("we"). By playing Roamadic you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not play.

Roamadic is the service, served from www.roamadic.app. Glade is the world you walk around in once you are playing, so both names appear: the service is Roamadic, the park is the glade. These terms cover the whole service.

You must be at least 13 to play. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian has to agree to these terms on your behalf, and that applies to creating an account and to buying a subscription as well as to playing.

2. What Roamadic is

Roamadic is a multiplayer browser game. You pick a display name and a look, walk into a shared world with other people, and take part in whatever activity that world hosts. On a touch device it detects that automatically and shows on-screen controls, a movement stick plus buttons for interacting and emoting, in place of the keyboard; a device with a mouse and keyboard sees no on-screen controls at all.

Each world holds up to 20 players at a time. When a world is full you are placed in another instance of the same world automatically. A single account or device may hold up to 6 simultaneous connections; beyond that, further connections are refused.

3. Play time

Play time is metered per day, and the day resets at UTC midnight:

  • Without an account: 20 minutes a day.
  • With a free account: 60 minutes a day.
  • On the unlimited plan: no daily limit.

You are warned in-game with 5 minutes and 1 minute remaining. If your allowance runs out during a scored session, you are allowed to finish that session before being disconnected. Time is counted while your connection is open, in 30-second increments. We may change the free allowances at any time, without notice. That applies to the free tiers only: the unlimited plan has no daily allowance, so a change to the free allowances does not affect an active subscription.

4. Accounts

You do not need an account to play. If you create one, it is held by our authentication provider, and you are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for everything done through your account. Do not impersonate another person. You may delete your account at any time from your account settings.

You may hold more than one account. What you may not do is create accounts in order to get around the daily play-time allowance. Worth knowing how the meter actually works before you try: playing without an account is metered against your device, so opening more anonymous sessions on one machine does not buy you more free time, while a signed-in account is metered against the account itself. Farming free time with extra accounts is a breach of these terms even where nothing in the software stops it.

5. Subscriptions

The unlimited plan is a recurring subscription. The price shown on the landing page at the time of writing is $3.99 per month, but the plan and its price are configured in our billing provider's dashboard, not in this codebase, so this figure is indicative only: the checkout screen you actually complete the purchase on is the authoritative price. It is sold and processed through our billing provider and its payment processor; we never see or store your card details. Your plan is applied to your next play session as soon as the subscription is active.

The plan renews automatically every month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account settings, where the subscription is managed by our billing provider; cancelling stops the next renewal and does not end the month you have already paid for, so unlimited access continues until the end of the paid period and then reverts to the free account allowance. We do not offer refunds for a period that has already started or already been used.

Where consumer law gives you a statutory cancellation or refund right, for example if you are in the UK or the EEA, that right applies regardless of the paragraph above. [OWNER: state how a price change is handled and what happens to unlimited access if a renewal payment fails; both are set in the billing provider's dashboard rather than in this codebase, so neither is asserted here].

6. Your display name

Display names are 2 to 16 characters, are filtered automatically, and are visible to every other player in your world. A name that the filter rejects will not be accepted. We may remove or reset a name that is offensive, impersonates someone, or is used to harass.

What moderation exists is worth stating plainly, because it is not much. Beyond the automatic name filter there is no in-game reporting flow, no moderator on duty, and no formal moderation programme. If another player's conduct or name is a problem, email us at [OWNER: contact email address] and we will look at it case by case. We do not commit to a response time, and we may decide to take no action.

7. Acceptable use

Please do not:

  • Modify, automate, or script the game client, or send crafted network traffic, to gain an advantage or to disrupt other players. The server is authoritative and enforces its own rate limits; working around them is a breach of these terms regardless of whether it succeeds.
  • Attempt to overload, probe, or interfere with the servers, the realtime connection, or another player's session.
  • Use the game to harass, threaten, or abuse other players, including through your display name.
  • Scrape, resell, or redistribute the game's assets, or use the asset endpoints for anything other than playing the game.

8. In-game currency and progress

Activities award an in-game currency. It has no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for money or transferred between players, and is not property. Balances earned while playing without an account are temporary by design and are not recoverable. Balances attached to an account persist, but we do not guarantee any particular balance, feature, or world will continue to exist.

9. Availability

Roamadic is provided as-is, with no uptime guarantee. Connections are recycled periodically by design and the game reconnects you automatically; world state is temporary and a world with nobody in it is cleared. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the game, including whole worlds, at any time.

10. Content and ownership

The game, its code, and its visual design belong to us or to our licensors. The 3D characters, animations, and scenery are third-party assets, licensed to us for use in this publicly available game, including its paid tier. They are not yours to extract, redistribute, or reuse elsewhere.

11. Suspension

We may suspend or end your access if you breach these terms, or if we need to protect the service or other players. Where it is practical we will tell you, by email to the address on your account, and we will do that before acting where we reasonably can. That is a best-effort promise, not a guarantee, and it is only possible where we have an account to reach: anonymous play gives us no way to contact you. There is no formal appeal process. If you think a suspension is wrong, reply to us at [OWNER: contact email address] and we will take another look.

12. Disclaimers and liability

[OWNER: this section has to be written for your jurisdiction and cannot be copy-pasted safely: warranty disclaimers, liability caps, and consumer-rights carve-outs differ by country, and an unenforceable clause here is worse than no clause, because it misleads players about rights they actually have].

13. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of Roamadic is to be brought in the state or federal courts located in California, which both you and we agree to submit to.

That choice does not take away rights you have where you live. If you are a consumer resident in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, nothing in this section deprives you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country you live in, and you keep the right to bring proceedings in the courts of that country. Where those rules conflict with anything in these terms, they win.

14. Changes and contact

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows when they last changed. Continuing to play after a change means you accept the updated terms. Questions go to [OWNER: contact email address].
